Itchenor History

It is believed that the Romans established Itchenor in 43 AD and was then resettled by the South Saxons. In fact, it is thought that the name Itchenor takes its name from the Saxon who laid claim to the area, 'Icca'. The history of Itchenor is so great it was even mentioned in the Domesday book, commissioned by William the Conqueror. Since then, it has been a source of maritime history as recently as the second world war where Itchenor Shipyard was used as a base and taken over by the British Army.
